RIVERSIDE CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH 1890

This church was organized in the town of Hood River in
the year 1890, with a membership of eight persons. From the records available,
I only find two names of the eight members, those of Mr. and Mrs. C.P. Heald,
Frank H. Aunks, who was pastor of the First Congregational Church, acted
as pastor for the Riverside Church the first year, and C.P. Heald served
as cleric. A building was erected on State Street at a cost of $2,400.
H.C. Bateh_m was clerk the second year, membership ten
with an average attendance at the Sabbath School of thirty five.
In 1892 Henry F. Gilt was pastor with a membership of
twenty two. Henry F. Gilt was succeeded as pastor in 1894 by J.L. Hershner.
The parsonage was built in 1895 at a cost of $1,400.
In 1904 William C. Gilmore succeeded J.L. Hershner and
E.A. Harris became pastor in 1910.
A stone church was built in the years 1912 and 1913 at
a cost of $24,000.
In 1934 A.S. Donat became pastor. At that time the membership
was one hundred and ten. Value of Church property $27,000.
