PUSHING WORK ON DAM SITE
The Northwestern Electric Company is pushing work on the Klickitat Power plant near Lyle, as fast as it as been possible to do, in the besetments that have attended the development since they obtained control of the river under the deal with Ham, Yearsley & Ryrie. All the preliminary construction work for the power plant is completed, including the boarding camp for the construction gang, and the connecting spur of the Goldendale branch, is being completed. This is for delivery of materials and machinery. Work on the dam site was stopped by the recent litigation, until the company could develop another site, which has been done, the location being a few hundred feet up-river. Here the sub-stratum has been uncovered, and the foundation ascertained to be satisfactory, and the lumber and material for the dam itself, which is to concrete, and to cost upwards of $100,000, is being delivered. The gravel comes from the North Bank pits at Avery station. Lumber for the forms and mixing beds, and the boarding houses which will accommodate 60 to 100 men, is from the Lyle Trading Company, thus patronizing home industry. Unless further hindered this $100,000 plant will be completed within the present year.
