OLD FORT TO BE SAVED
Blockhouse Long Neglected at Goldendale Will be Rebuilt
GOLDENDALE, Wash., June 3 - (Special) - The old fort
Blockhouse, built in the early 50's and used as a place of refuge by the
early settlers of Klickitat County during Indian War days, was torn down
a few years ago and removed to this city, where it has been neglected.
Now the Grangers of this county are arranging to have
it reconstructed in the city park and the City Council has agreed to aid
then in the enterprise.
The building was located in the Spring Creek country
a few miles west of this city. It is a log structure and can be rebuilt strong
enough to stand as a historic landmark for years.
An effort is being made to collect all data available
relative to the old building which will be preserved with the building.
