NEW NAME FOR FALLBRIDGE
Names significant of early history of the mid-Columbia
river district will be adopted for two stations on the Spokane, Portland
and Seattle railway in Klickitat county, and a memorial will also be erected
near the present station of Fallbridge in memory of discovers and pioneers
of the Columbia river territory.
The name changes were announced by W.E. Turner president
of the S.P. & S. and who had announced plans for erection of a basalt
slab as a memorial.
Under the name changes as given out by President Turner,
Fallbridge will become Wishram, and the station just west of Fallbridge, now
called Speedis, will be changed to Spearfish.
These names were adopted, says President Turner, on
recommendation of the Oregon Historical society, and changes become effective
Febr. 1st.
Fallbridge or Wishum will be one of the historical spots
to be visited by the special train of students and notables coming west for
the dedication of the Gray memorial at Astoria the coming summer. --
