NEW FERRY BOAT

J.R. Rankin's new ferry boat was launched July 4th and christened the "Independence." Her trial trip was made of the 5th, but with temporary sails, and she crossed a band of Mazamas to White Salmon, in all 30 passengers, 14 horses, 5 wagons and a pile of lumber. The new boat is 60 feet long, overall, with a 16-foot beam; two masts - a regular schooner rigging. She will be used as a ferry boat between Hood River and White Salmon.
