NOT TO DIVIDE COUNTY

The bill introduced last Friday in the senate by Senator John E. Chappell from Klickitat county will, without doubt, die a sudden death, as strong opposition is found against the county division in this locality and elsewhere, by the larger counties, who are not inclined to see their number of representatives lessened, as any proposed divisions will certainly take away from the number now representing the larger counties. We are reliably informed that the proposition did not receive any enthusiastic support from the introduction, and it was only on account of his pledge to the west end that such a measure would be brought up at this legislature, that Senator Chappell introduced the measure. Whether this is the case or not, the fact remains that Klickitat county is in no condition for division at this time, and this is generally known among the legislators.
When the time comes for division it will amicably be made without active opposition, for the time will come when most of our large counties will be entitled to and will have to be divided.
