MAY NOT NEED SHOVEL AT DAM

The big steam shovel of the Northwestern Electric Co. now rests near Grange park, where it will remain until it is definitely determined that it will be needed, for the contractors are making such satisfactory progress with their hydraulic apparatus that the shovel may not be necessary. A crew of forty men are now at work, cutting down the hillside and tunneling into the ground in search of bedrock. Stone & Webster, the contractors, now have a powerful donkey engine making its way slowly out to the site. It hitches a cable to an anchor far ahead and pulls itself along on a pair of heavy skids.
