LAWRENCE BLOWERS AND FAMILY 1889

Lawrence Blowers, the oldest son of Amby S. and Ellen Blowers, was born in Iowa, April 18, 1867.
The family soon after moved to Minnesota and Lawrence received his education in that state. He began in the mercantile business with his father when fifteen pears of age.
In 1889 the family mowed to Hood River and "Blowers & Son" bought the store owned by E.L. Smith, who was the leading merchant of the town.
On August 29, 1891, Mr. Blowers was married to Miss Bertha Mifflin, a native of Washington, D.C. Her father was from Pennsylvania and from the same family as General Thomas Mifflin, president of the Continental Congress and later Governor of Pennsylvania.
Mifflin County and town of Pa. received the name from this family. When the O.N.G. was organized in Hood River Mr. Blowers became a member and served three years as Lieutenant of Co. D., his father being Captain. Mr. Blowers spent one year in Sumpter, Oregon, in the mercantile business, and was elected Sumpter's first mayor.
In Hood River he was the second mayor.
Mr. and Mrs. Blowers have four children, Paul, Loyd, Ellen and Ruth.
Paul Blowers is now (1918) in France with the U.S. Army.
