History of the Women's Circle
BINGEN, Sept. 19, (Special) - In August 1921 there was
a meeting for the Bingen ladies at the home of Mrs. Stump for the purpose
of working for the Congregational Church in Bingen. Later these ladies named
their gathering "The Women's Circle." There has been an average attendance
at the meetings and at present there are 45 members of the Circle.
Two years ago the president of the Circle, Margaret Lemley
started the work of paying the church debt which was $800. This summer the
last of the debt was paid and the church has been repaired. All the old plaster
was removed, braces were put under the sagging roof and a lower ceiling put
in. We have the S.D. and S. lumber Co. to take for the lumber donated for
the ceiling. Earl Sanders and family worked hard to get the old plaster from
the walls and later sanded and varnished the floor. Several other Circle
members and neighbors also helped. New electric wiring throughout the building
was done by Frank Wilke who donated half the bill.
New shingles and eave troughs have been put on the church.
Curtains and drapes and a new pulpit were also bought.
Mr. Burgess helped fix the seats over and donated his
work.
A piano was bought from Mr. Heaman. An oil furnace has
been bought and paid for thanks, to Mrs. Earl Good.
We are serving dinners to the Rotary every Tuesday and
when the bill is donated it helps pay the bills.
A total of $1450 has been spent by the Circle and all
we owe is $150.00 for the shingles. Mrs. Mary Keys stained and varnished
all the work throughout the church.
We take this opportunity again to thanks Bingen and White
Salmon.
