HOW ABOUT THIS?

     Perhaps it has not occurred to the voters that two dinky counties, such as would be formed by division, could only be allowed to very low salaried officials. Nowadays if you want a man with any ability to engage in his pursuit, the payment is the consideration. Goldendale Sentinel.
     By division Klickitat county with still remain larger than the state of Rhode Island. The new county would have 584 square miles of territory. Nothing so very "dinky" about these accept the arguments put up against division.
     Now let's see what kind of officers Klickitat county had under its high-salaried-one-county-system. Read the following extract from a report from the state's public examiner made last January:
     "Olympia, Wash., Jan. 16, 1912 -- Financially Klickitat county is in excellent shape, according to the report of the State Bureau of Inspection. But it shows that discrepancies of all kinds amounting to $7722.41 have occurred between 1993 and Aug. 1911. The amounts checked up as "short" against various officials represent ERRORS OF A CLERICAL NATURE. THE ALLOWING OF THE ILLEGAL CLAIMS AND PASSING ON CLAIMS IN AN ILLEGAL MANNER."
