GIVES FULL PAGE TO BOYS' TOWN

In spite of the local indifference, White Salmon's most persistent source of favorable national publicity stems from Camp Columbia, Boys' Town of the West, eight miles NW of town.
Last Sunday's Oregon Journal devoted a full page of pictures (Page 14, Section A) to Boy's Town and its guardian founders, Major and Mrs. F.H. Blake.
The feature headlined an arrangement between the Air Force and Camp Columbia by which Boys' Town will build and manage a ground observer corps post on the camp's 90 acres.
The Journal article clearly distinguished the difference between "problem boys" and "boys with problems". It shows the Camp's present population of 26 boys responding to a homelike environment of work and play.
Camp Columbia has been publicized over five national radio and television hookups including "Strike it Rich", "Welcome Travelers" and "Breakfast Club".
An Oregon-Washington foundation is being organized to assure Camp Columbia's continuance. Six by-state divisions are out to raise $36,000 a year to support Boys' Town near Husum.
