History of Early Pioneer Families of Hood River, Oregon. Compiled by Mrs. D.M. Coon
DORSEY CRAPPER AND FAMILY D.M.C. 1884
Dorsey Crapper was born in Kentucky. He came of long-lived
ancestors, one of whom was a companion to Daniel Boone in the struggle against
the Indians on the "dark and gloomy ground of Kentucky".
This ancestor died in Indiana at the age of one hundred
and seven years.
Dorsey Crapper married Miss Elizabeth Cottrell of Michigan.
They located in Iowa, being pioneers in that state. He tried to enlist in
the Civil War but was rejected on account of bad teeth.
He came to Oregon from Iowa in 1877, remained in Portland
a number of years, arriving in Hood River March 24, 1884.
He located in the Oak Grove district buying the farm
owned by Mr. Hall. He engaged in general farming and the raising of strawberries.
Two sons and two daughters, all grown, accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Crapper to
Oregon. Nettie became Mrs. Hackett while the family were living in Portland.
Harvey married Ida King in Hood River, they located on land just south of
the D.S. Crapper home.
Bell Crapper was married to Mr. McCurdy on September
4, 1890, at the home of her parents, and at the same time and place, Will
Crapper was married to Miss Rosa York.
Mrs. D.S. Crapper died at her home on October 31, 1897.
Mr. D.S. Crapper died in Portland March 11, 1903.
