BUTLER BANKING COMPANY

On April 4, 1900, Leslie Butler and his son Truman Butler established the first bank in Hood River. They operated as a partnership, under the firm name of Butler & Co., Bankers, for about five years at which time the capital was increased to $50,000 and the business incorporated under the name of Butler Banking Company.
About five years later the capital was increased to $125,000 with a surplus fund of $50,000.
At the end of the first year the deposits were about $28,000 and with the development of the valley the business has steadily grown until the deposits are now more than $l,150,000.
It is an interesting fact that the founders of the bank are still at the head of the institution and that the Vice President, C.H. Vaughn and the Cashier Harold Hershner have been with the bank for more than twenty three years. Mr. I.R. Acheson, Assistant Cashier and manager of the Savings Department has been in the bank more than seventeen years. The Directors at this time are Leslie Butler, Truman Butler, Amedee M. Smith, M.E. McCarty and C.H. Vaughn.
