BINGEN MAY UNITE WITH US
Citizens Have Started a Petition Tho Commission is for Bingen
The Oregonian had this report concerning the movement
to add Bingen to White Salmon:
June 6. - (Special) Bingen is to be incorporated with
White Salmon if a majority of the citizens of that place have their way about
it.
Leading property holders have been conferring with the
Council of this place to that end, and a petition will be presented in a
few days. There has been considerable rivalry, sometimes bitter and acrimonious,
between Bingen, located on the roadway at the foot of the bluff, and White
Salmon at the top of the bluff.
The station is named "White Salmon" and some time ago
Theodore Suksdorf petitioned the State Railroad Commission to compel the
railway company to disconnect Bingen and White Salmon on their tariff schedules.
White Salmon, with four times the population, objected, as did the railroad.
The Railroad Commission ruled in favor of Bingen, and today Mr. Suksdorf,
of Bingen, received a letter from the Commission reiterating their former
decision. The railway, however, will not make the change until compelled
to by a higher court.
With Bingen added to White Salmon the population will
be over 1000.
