"Bingen"
(Observer)

Seventeen years ago, W.F. Fordyce and young family arrived on the townsite of Bingen, and finally settled on some raw land near Husum, where he and they have ever since resided. On Monday Mr. Fordyce came to town to take the train for Vancouver, having some business to attend to, and although he used to be a frequent visitor to Bingen, he said that this was only the third visit he had made in the past five years. Mr. Fordyce is the owner of a fine ranch now at Husum, made so by him and his family's indefatigable work and grit. He says when he arrived here he was a poor man, but with his inborn Scotch grit he went to work and he is now in a position to take life a little more easy. He says that old Klickitat's land can't be beat and the day is not for distant when the Klickitat apple will be world-renowned. He has several acres of an orchard of six year old trees, and will put more into orchard every year. He says he has a warm spot in his heart for Bingen, and declares it his belief that it will someday be the most important town in the western half of Klickitat County.
