A PROGRESSIVE TOWN
Editor Queen, of Bickleton, was in Centerville a few days ago on business matters, and on his return home has this to say: Centerville, situated on the Columbia Northern R.R., nine miles southeast of Goldendale, is in the heart of the famous Klickitat Valley which is one of the prettiest places in the county. The soil of this valley is very fertile and produces crops of all times in abundance. The country tributary to Centerville is settled principally by Finlanders, an industrious and progressive class of people. The farms are all well improved and good substantial buildings, fences, etc., and they all present an air of being well cultivated and well cared for. Centerville itself is a small but progressive town. Almost every kind of business is represented there. The Centerville Hardware Co., managed by Peter Ahola, is probably the largest store in town. Mr. Ahola is a very pleasant gentlemen to meet and a wide-awake business man. He is very optimistic of the future of Central Klickitat and thinks the development of that region is yet in its infancy. He has as complete a line of hardware and machinery as can be found in any first class establishment of the kind anywhere. W.B. Hayden has the leading dry goods and grocery store of the town and keeps his stock well supplied with first class goods. Besides the above, Centerville has other stores, a good hotel, livery stable, blacksmith shop and a bank. There is also a good school and three churches, Catholic, Christian and Methodist.
