ANOTHER DAM SITE
Sluicing and Drilling at Jaws of the White Salmon River
Site No. 3 is now being prospected by the Northwestern for its proposed dam on the White Salmon. First the Narrows was selected and a lot of money spent trying to locate the bedrock on the east side of the river. Not finding ideal conditions they moved up to the old bridge back of the Cameron farm and have done considerable sluicing, besides drilling in the bed of the river for its formation. In the past few days they have moved up about 1500 feet to "The Jaws," a rock canyon in measuring about 70 feet at its base. It is directly back of the Adams tract and where Little Buck creek tumbles into the river. At this point only a 50-foot dam can be built, says Engineer Walsh, while at The Narrow they contemplated a 100 foot dam. Mr. Walsh says all the work is purely exploratory, the company owning too much property to confine itself to just one site. Anyone who will turn in at the school house and follow up the river along a road from The Narrows to the "Jaws" will find it very interesting.
