Re: "Over 350 Years of The DILLE Family in America". 1645 to 2000

The following descendancy files were originally created to put into computer form the data that was compiled by George Earl Dille, his wife Josephine Dille, and son Earl Kaye Dille, when they wrote and published the book, "THE DILLE FAMILY - 300 Years in America", in 1965.

Their efforts resulted in a compilation of over eight generations of ancestors and descendants of the John Dille family from the 1960's back to 1664. To those of us who continue the search of our ancestors, their efforts have been the basis of our searching and should be considered the master base of all further searches by Dille genealogists.

Like all such endeavors, a stop point was reached in 1965 and publishing was begun. As stated by the Dilles in their Preface, we "...have tried our best for accuracy. However, it would be a miracle if there were no errors made. Forgive us these. It is our wish that this volume will be possessed with pleasure and pride for generations to come, by the descendants of John Dille of Woodbridge".

The "Computer Age" via the Internet has allowed us a new tool to continue the search for our ancestors, as well as the discovering of numerous new cousins. As a result, the intent was to create and supply to the LDS Archives a computer data base of the book, along with any corrections, and to add as many new generations of descendants as possible. In addition, a GedCom copy will be supplied to the RootsWeb World Connect Project.

In collaboration with Sharon Dickson and her daughter Debra of Papillion, NE the original book has been incorporated into PAF4 format along with merging, correcting, and adding new data from many others. The following Descendancy Charts are a copy of that database.

REVISIONS TO THE BOOK

1. William Dille, b.1738, is listed as the first born of David Dille, Sr., b.1718, and Mary Elizabeth Wade Dille, b.1728. Her birth date is based on her 1826 obituary which lists her age as 98. She would have been 10 years old at William's birth. If David is William's father, we are assuming he was previously married to a different wife/mother. Therefore, we have listed an unknown wife/mother with a marriage date before 1738. As a result, Aaron Dille, b.1742, will be listed as the first born of David, Sr., and Mary Elizabeth Wade Dille. Earl Kaye Dille of St. Louis, MO, the co-author of the DILLE book, concurs with this revision.

2. Price Dille(y), b. 28 Feb 1754, is listed as child #10 and David Jr., b. 31 Oct 1753, as child #9. If these dates are correct they could not be siblings. It is now assumed that Price, b. 1754, as well as Lewis, b. 1756, are sons of Ichabod, b. 1722, and not David, Sr. This revision has been proposed by Dr Andrews.

3. In addition, John Dille, Jr., b. 24 Jan 1681, and Ruth Taylor, b. 25 Dec 1678, are listed as the parents of Ichabod, as well as David, Sr. Assumptions are made that Ruth Taylor Dille died at or a short time after the birth of Ichabod. Dr Andrews and I are considering Ichabod and David as brothers and not half-brothers.

4. The differences in our placement of the children of David and Elizabeth's family, as compared to the order in the DILLE book, are as follows:

6. Samuel Dille, b.1777, was listed as the son of Israel Dille, b.1740, (ie: Dille Book D4 on page 77). In excerpts from The Draper Papers, pg 274-276, when Draper was interviewing Nehemiah Dille, b.1781, the son of David Dille, Jr., b. 1753, Nehemiah stated that Samuel Dille was the son of John Dille, b. 15 Jun 1777, at Ten Mile Creek, PA. In the computer data, this Samuel will be listed as the first child of John Dille, b.1748, John being the son of David Dille, Sr., b.1718. Information is on file of this transaction. Dr Andrews has concurred with this finding also.

7. On page 118 of the DILLE book, C4 Cornelius Dilley, b.1775, C5 Samuel Dilley, and C6 Aaron Dilley, are all listed as sons of B3 Ichabod, b.1724 (see page 117). Based on data received from Ruth and Jerry Dilley of Clintonville, WI, these three are sons of Jonathan Dilley, b.1741, son of B4 Aaron Dilley, b.1746, who is the son of A4 Jonathan Hamel Dilley, b.1684, on page 118 of the DILLE book.

8. The additional descendants of the David Buell Dille clan were derived from the David Lawrence Anderson Home Page as listed on the Family Tree Maker Web Page. It includes the descendants of Arvis Chaplin Dille, b.1820, the son of David Buell Dille, b.1812, D14 page 98, the son of David, Jr., b.1753.

9. The descendants of the Brice Dille clan, E1 page 97, were supplied by the writer, David L Dille. Information is on file.

10. The update of the descendants of Ephraim Dille, b.1831, son of Lewis Dille, Jr., was supplied by J Robert Dille of Norman OK. Information is on file.

11. The update of the descendants of David Dille, b.1789, son of John Dille, b.1748, who is the son of David Dille, Sr., b.1718, was supplied by Sharon Dickson of Papillion NE.

12. In the DILLE book, on page 82, E2 William Logan Dille, b.8 Mar 1808, is listed without any descendants. In correspondence with Dr Andrews, he stated that the William L Dilley, b.8 Mar 1797, listed on page 128, was William Logan and descendants. This data has been placed into this data base. William is listed in the 1860 Census of Wells Cty, IN, at age 54, which would correct his birth date by 10 years. (Note the birth date differences on both pages.)

13. The DILLE book on page 85 lists Aaron Dille, b.5 Sep 1787, without descendants. The 1830 and 1840 Census for Richland Cty, OH, lists him with three dependents, two daughters and one son. Information supplied by Merwyn D Riddle showing the correct family order is included in this data.

14. On page 94 of the book, Elizabeth Dille D4 and Mary Dille D10, daughters of Samuel Dille, b.1752, married James and Joseph Fort. Extensive additions have been made to the descendants of Elizabeth and Mary. This information was supplied by Pamela Robinson of Westminster, CA.

15. On page 93, Rickey Dille D2, b.1829, married on 7 Aug 1849 to Maglin Nelson, is NOT the son of Samuel Dille, b.1752. He is the son of a Rickey Dille, Sr., b.1782, and wife Jane. Quoting from Dr Andrews, " Rickey, Jr,. who married in 1849 produced three children before dying in the mid 1850's. All of Rickey, Jr.'s, descendants are given and Maglin appears in the 1860 Census a widow."

16. In correspondence with Dr Andrews, he stated that, "...on page 82, D2 William Dille, D3 Squire Dille, and D4 Amos Dilley are sons of David, b.1790, not John, b.1748." My data will still relate to what is in the book until further proof of his findings is discovered.

17. The update of the descendants of Calvin Dille b. 11 Apr 1785 and his second wife Sally Avery was supplied by Lewis G Murray, Stone Mountain GA. Information is on file.

18. The update of the descendants of Aurora Dille b. 1812 son of Lewis Brooks Dille (the General) was supplied by the writer and Susan Kamps of Markesan, Wisconsin. Information is on file.

19. The update of the descendants of Ephraim Dilley b. 1755 was supplied by Fred Milligan.
