This site is primarily for the publishing of my family's letters, papers, and  historic photos.  The bulk of the collection is centered around the family  of Charles Henry Gauss and Charlotte Elizabeth Johns of St. Charles, MO.  These were my mother's grandparents.   There are letters to and from Fawcett, Johns, Gauss, Lindsay, Durfee, and Glenday family members.   This is necessarily a long term project, so please

FAQ: I am frequently asked why I have put transcriptions instead of scans ot the letters on my web page. There are several reasons:

  • Images are big. I would quickly use up a generous allotment of space, even if I reduce the size of the images and JPG compress them.
  • Some of the letters are difficult to read, even at full resolution. They would be impossible at reduced resolution, especially since JPG compression introduces artifacts
  • Unlike scans, the transcriptions are searchable without extensive indexing.
