Gibbons/Kemper/Yancey Family Letter Series
In-Page Links:
Collection Source:
This series of letters were in the possession of my grandmother
(Charlotte [Yancey] Boice) when she died. She probably got them from her mother
(Mary Ashby [Gibbons] Yancey), who in turn probably got them from her mother
(Frances Virginia [Kemper] Gibbons). You get the idea...
Collection Notes:
- These letters have been transcribed as is, including all spelling
errors and punctuation errors (lack of punctuation, usage of commas for
periods, etc.).
- Words that I am not sure of because the handwriting is hard to read
are placed in brackets with a question mark and formatted with a purple font
[like this ??].
- Many of these letters have no matching envelopes, making
identification of the sender and receiver difficult at times.
- Some of these letters were apparently continued on other pieces of
paper that did not remain with the main letter, so are unfinished, even
trailing off in the middle of a sentence.
- All purely numeric dates written by me have been recorded in the
format MM/DD/YYYY.
