In 1832 he fought in the Black Hawk war. I have his war records. His commander was Capt. Samuel Houston. ALEXANDER m. MARGARET LOY 12-Jul-1836 in Watson twp., Effingham co., IL. He lived there until his death 23-Dec-1896. I have a photo of him. I know of two sons; JOHN (b. 28-May-1837) and CLINTON DWIGHT (b. 1840—my great grandfather). I would like to find out who ALEXANDER’s parents were. Dave McWhorter Idar-Oberstein, Germany davemc@t-online.de Posted 5-Feb-2005 I am researching and searching for documents, dates and information on JOHN BARR MEWHIRTER, possibly known as “Barr”. He filed a will 10-May-1826, I have that. The will was probated 5-Jun-1826. He m. MARY ANNE REED (dau. of JOHN FREDERICK REED) on 30-Jan-1821, filed on 23-Jan. I have been unable to find exact date of death or place. They had two child.; FREDERICK and WILLIAM. JOHN BARR MEWHIRTER’s mother was JANE BARR and father possibly WILLIAM MCWHIRTER/MCWHORTER. The family most likely migrated from Westmoreland co., OH. I do not have actual death date and burial of JOHN BARR MEWHIRTER. By all indications they lived in Green twp., Harrison co., OH. MARY ANNE and two sons, FREDERICK & WILLIAM, later migrated to Van Wert, OH. Thomas L. We know a little about ARTHUR; nothing about PERSIS, except that they had two children, JEAN ELLEN (my mother-in-law) and brother ARTHUR. Trying to locate info on uncle ARTHUR. Believe he was born in or near Huron SD around 1922-1925.
