Josiah "Joseph" DAVIS was born on 9 May 1757. He married Sophia JACKSON, daughter of John JACKSON and Elizabeth CUMMINGS, who was born 11 September 1763, Howard Lick, Hardy County, WV. Children of Joseph DAVIS and Sophia Jackson were as follows:
Joseph died on 18 Oct 1832 at Upshur, Lewis Co, WV, at age 75. His will is recorded in Lewis County, West Virginia, Will Book (one), Page 244. Sophia died 10 March 1836. Henry DAVIS was born on 19 November 1796 in Harrison Co, VA. He married 13 Jan 1817 Anna BUSH, daughter of George BUSH, JR. and Mary WOLFE, who was born 22 June 1800. The family moved in 1832 to Clayton, Adams Co, IL. Anna was sometimes called Annie
*William R. and Frank JACKSON are reported to be brothers. At this time their parents are unknown. In 1851 the family lived in Warsaw, Hancock Co, IL. After their daughter Mary Katherine PEARCE died circa 1851, Henry and Anna took their grandchildren Henry Davis and Amanda Alvira PEARCE to raise. According to the Memoirs of their grandson Henry Davis Pierce, Anna died in Warsaw about 1855 and she and her daughter Mary are buried in the same cemetery but at this time the cemetery is unknown. Henry and his children left Illinois by wagon train and and arrived in Grayson County, TX, in May 1956. The family settled in the Ferguson Post Office area. Henry was a Baptist Minister and was referred to as Elder Henry Davis. He also farmed and was a beekeeper. He married Elizabeth M. (--?--) about 1865. Child of Henry DAVIS and Elizabeth M. Henry Davis died on 23 Mar 1870 at the age 73 and is buried in the Hall Cemetery, Howe, Grayson County, TX. There are two tombstones in the cemetery. One put there by his wife which says he was born May 15, 1797 and one put there by his daughter Elizabeth who gives his birthdate as November 19, 1797. In his will he left everything to his second wife E. M. and son Henry Ulysses. His son M. H. Davis and daughter Elizabeth Jackson and her husband William R. Jackson contested the will. The judge made E. M. executrix of the will. |
