OTHER INFORMATION
Gallia County was established in 1803. It is situated on the Ohio River 80 miles southeast of Columbus. The county takes its name from "Gaul", a Latin word for France.
The county was first settled by the French who established Gallipolis, the county seat, in 1791. The city's waterfront once had active business from trade boats that stopped for supplies. Showboats and passenger boats often moored here.
Agricultural products in Gallia County include; dairy, tobacco, cattle, and calves. Other main industries are; food, processed meats and upholstered furniture.
Probate Court has birth, death, marriage & probate records; Clerk of Courts has divorce & civil court records from 1850; County Health Department has burial records; County Recorder has land records.
