The Families in Europe

France, Germany, Switzerland, Roumania and Austria

Alsace and Bourgogne, France

Jean Schini and his wife Catherine (Jacob) were living in Zutzendorf (Obermodern) in 1811. His child Jakob Schoene emigrated about 1832 to the United States. (George Schini, a neighbor of Jakob in Beaver County, Pennsylvania may have also been a son.) When Shirley Flannagan and Catherine Young visited Zutzendorf in June 1998, they found many Schini Tombstones in the cemetery, so there are still relatives there. Contributed by Kay Schaney.

At the web site Marriage acts from parish registers in 89 different localities from the département du Bas-Rhin/France, the Name Schini is found in the village of Imbsheim.

At the web site Centre Departemental D'Historie Des Familles - Haut-Rhin they have a Schön Family page which has a coat of arms and a synopsis of the Schön families of Alsace going back to the 1400's. Among them are:

  • Schoen families of Réguisheim (1674-1767)
  • Schoen families of Oltingue, Knoeringue, Michelbach and Bettlach (1647-1748) where they were priests, farmers and tailors.
  • Schönn family of Masevaux (1642-1660), miller.
  • Schoen family of Mulhouse (1418-1919), according to a genealogy printed in 1920, this family descends from Jean Schoen, born before 1418 in Colmar. Conrad, the son of Jean, was a dyer in Mulhouse.
  • Schoen family of Burnhaupt-le-Haut (Masevaux, Gildwiller and Burnhaupt), this family is related to the family of Mulhouse (listed above). Descendants immigrated in the middle of the XIX century to the United States in New York.

Germany

On the Web site The Marriage of Jacob and Phillippa by Susannah Pendery and Jeff Lawson (Which is a beautiful site about a fifteenth century illuminated manuscript at Scripps College.) we find mention of a Philip (Filips de Schone), son of the duchess Maria of Bourgogne, circa 1541.

Quirinus Schone b.1626 d.17 May 1683 in Neuenburg, Baden, Germany, his wife was Maria Barbara. His daughter, Barbara Schone who was married to Ziriakus Fleischmann, with their children, came to Virginia in the second Germanna colony in 1717.

Heinrich Schoene was born in the city of Darmstadt. His grandfather, according to a letter from the Hessiche Archiv, was a royal secretary. He was holding that job in 1781 when his son Joseph Simon Schoene was born. Contributed by: Rita & Albert Marquez-Lohr & Lohr
