The name of Fulton is found in the reign of Edward the First, A.D. 1296 connected with the Parish of Beith in the County of Ayrshire, Scotland, attached to a Parliamentary roll or document acknowledging Edward I as Kynge Paramounte.
During the reign of Elizabeth, the Irish had been universally engaged in the rebellion and in 1611, the Province of Ulster fell to the Crown a company was established in London for planting new colonies in that fertile country. One branch of the Fulton family came over at this time from Ayrshire and settled in and around Lisburn and Belfast, Northern Ireland. William Fulton, the son of Rev. Dr. Fulton, chaplain to Lady Arabella Stuart, Marchioness of Hertford, near London, settled in Kilkenny in 1612.(1)

2. 2William Edwards Book relating to his own History, Compiled by Leonard, Clarence Etienne--Fulton, Hayden, Warner lineage. 1923 states William Fulton was born in Kilkenny, Ireland, but this is incorrect in view of the 1612 colonization period. For him to have been born in Kilkenny, he would have had to have been born after 1612 and could not have had a child by 1623.
