There are so many variations on the spelling of this surname! My ancestors were London goldsmiths and court jewellers to Kings James I, Charles I and Charles II. They were also somehow related to the family of Sir Charles Harbord, who mentioned "my cozen James Heriot" in his will, and whose sons Sir Charles and William were godfathers to some of James Heriott's children. Charles Heriott, son of James, travelled in Europe with William Harbord and witnessed his 1692 will. The family connection, however, remains unknown. The Heriott surname "daughtered out" within a few generations of this branch, but remained as a middle name for their descendants up to the present day.
