Marion J. Stedwell, author of "Steadwell, Stedwell, Studwell"(Heritage Books, 1996) and my collaborator on this web site, passed away on July 15, 2006. He spent many years producing the first comprehensive history of these families, a gift not only to us but to generations to come.

Thomas Studwell seems to have been the ancestor of most Steadwells, Stedwells and Studwells in America. This web site will try to pull together the most complete, accurate and up to date information we have about his descendants.

Much of the information on the site is derived from the book "Steadwell, Stedwell, Studwell", by Marion J. Stedwell (Heritage Books, 1996), but it has been updated by data obtained from contributors, censuses and vital records. Although this web site contains all of the Steadwells, Stedwells and Studwells who appear in the book, much of the personal information is omitted: the book should be consulted for more details.

Because of size restrictions I'll only be able to include descendants with the Steadwell, Stedwell and Studwell surnames. However I'll include the spouses of all daughters, so that those of you whose ancestors married into the family will be able to trace your lines.
