Mary and Job Kiger were in a bad train wreck July 30, 1896 coming from a trip to Atlantic City, NJ. Mary's back was badly injured and she was somewhat of an invalid after the accident. Notes for MARY A. KIGER:

Mary Kiger Borton was the consumate farmer's wife, preparing meals for farm hands and doing other chores around the farm. She did have help in raising her four children plus two surviving children from her husband's first marriage. Katey Ryan a red-haired Irish immigrant was the nanny for the children and a much loved servant in the home.

Notes for EDWARD ROBINSON BORTON:

Ed Borton was a dairy farmer and owned 61 acres on Friendship Rd. (at Burlington Rd.) in Upper Pittsgrove Twp., Salem Co., NJ.

He was a prosperous farmer who supplied milk for the Traymore Hotel in Atlantic City for years. However, he was quite accident prone and survived many farm related incidents--being kicked by a cow, falling from a hay loft when the rope he was holding broke, and being hit in his car by a train while delivering milk to the station. In later years he sold the farm and retired to live on Chestnut St. in Elmer where he maintained a large garden behind his house.

He was born into the Quaker faith but became a deacon in the Baptist church both in Elmer and at Daretown.
