Langford & Lankford Marriages in Alabama


The Benjamin Langford family lived in Jackson Co., AL from about 1819 until 1830 when they went to AR; they had come to Alabama from Greenville Co., SC. Click here to see their family page.


John T. Langford who first appears on records in MS (and who is shown on the MS page), seems to be part of the family below-- connected to Champ Langford, Sr., and Berry Langford (shown on AR page). Apparently they were all in St. Clair Co., AL at one time.

LifeNotes: He had a brother named Berry Langford who had a son named Champ and Berry died in Pope Co., AR (this from Dan Langford)

He fought the War of 1812 in Capt. McClure's Co., North Carolina Militia.

Champ LANGFORD Jr. and Elizabeth Hagood

LifeNotes: Appeared in the 1850 census for AL as age 16.

Champ fought the Civil War in Company C, 19th Alabama Infantry (Jefferson Warriors).

Champ and Elizabeth were in Jefferson Co., AL in the 1870 census; neither one appeared in the census again.

Bill Allen speculates Elizabeth may have died in childbirth, then Champ left the children with Elizabeth's sister Belle, then went to Arkansas, where he is buried.

He had an uncle in Arkansas. Did Champ go there to be near Berry??

Edmund or Edward LANGFORD and ?

LifeNotes: Edmund Langford signed a "memorial to congress" in 1815 regarding the difficulties of the people in the Mississippi Territory due to the War of 1812 and Indian attacks. Edmund may also have won a land lottery in GA during the time he was travelling back and forth to MS.

James LANGFORD and

LifeNotes: Was in Washington Co. AL in 1831 and 1839. One record is is sale of a slave named Harriet age 13 to Samuel Frisbie. In another document James Langford bought from Samuel Frisbie a male slave named Abram aged 40-45.

The later document is one in which James Langford was a witness to a transaction between Beloved L. Turner and James Slater and John Bladen. Poor copy as much of it is missing but also includes the name of Abner Turner. The other witness was Austin E. Ledyard.

Obit: Dr. Curren M. Lankford of St. Clair County, Alabama, died at his residence on the 17th inst., aged 34 years. He was a native of Rutherford County, N. C., but resided for several years in Greenville District, S. C.and in 1846 located in Alabama. In August 1848 he married Miss N. D. Green of Mississippi, who with three children now mourns the loss....(eulogy) (October 28, 1852)

LifeNotes: it appears that after Albert died, she remarried to Francis M. Goode; the family moved from Ashville, AL to Texas in 1865. She is shown in the 1870 Grayson Co., TX census as America Goode, age 37, Keeps House, SC. Francis, who served in the 44th AL Infantry with the rank of Captain, had been married to Lucy M. Allen, and they had a daughter Emma B. Goode who is shown in the household in the 1870 census as age 10. Were America (or America) and Lucy sisters??

Americus and Francis are shown in the 1880 Grayson Co., TX census in household of her son Curran. There are two young children shown too-- possibly Goodes Lillie age 9 TX, and Rubin age 6 TX
