This file is part of an ongoing effort to track the various Blanchards in New England to the year 1800. The two largest lines are presented here, in the form of a single, interleaved family report. In order to fit the two together, I have called the immigrants Thomas and "Joseph" brothers (something which has been asserted many times, but which has no documentary basis). Several more branches can be tentatively attached to this tree, but are not yet included here. Then again, some branches included may turn out to be attached incorrectly. Many details presented in this file have been culled from postings to the Blanchard Family Discussion Group or from private correspondence and lack the necessary documentation to be considered proven, but are included anyway because they are "probably" correct. Undocumented data are generally flagged with asterisks.

On 1640 Jun 30 at Salem, he was fined 40s for drunkenness and ordered to work off a debt of L3 to Moses Maverick. She married first, about 1665, Robert WAKUM, died before 1697. He and his wife Hannah, daughter of William Blanchard deceased, all of Boston, signed a receipt for a legacy of L20, left by William Blanchard and paid by George Manning, on 1665 Feb 13 (1664, 16 Cha II).^{6 {14:383}}

In 1773, after his father died, he chose Ephraim Hosmer as guardian.^{8 {docket 1917},69} He was apprenticed to Jonathan Hosmer of Acton to be a mason.⁶⁹ Residence 1775 at Acton, MA⁶⁹. He was a member of the Acton Minute Men and was the fifer for the company when it marched to the battle of Concord. He was the first man wounded in the battle. The wound was quickly bandaged, and he rejoined the action, but he died three days later.^68,69 The story of his quick demise may be incorrect. There is a record of Luther Blanchard joining the company of Captain William Smith of Lincoln about 1775 Apr 24 and dying about September of that year.⁶⁹ There is a receipt dated 1775 Jul 7 signed by Luther Blanchard for a service bounty. He was listed in the muster roll of Smith's company as of Aug 1 as a corporal, but was dead by Sep 30.⁶⁹ Smith's company, as part of Colonel Nixon's regiment, took part in the battle of Bunker Hill.⁶⁹ On 1777 Jan 14, the Littleton selectmen petitioned that Aaron Brown not be named administrator for Luther's estate because of his past mishandling of Simon Blanchard's estate.^{8 {docket 1908}}
