James P. FITZSIMMONS 23 Jun 1864
Chicago Tribune, Fri 24 Jun 1864 4:1 "The City"
SUDDEN DEATH.--One of the most awfully sud-
den deaths ever witnessed in Chicago occurred
yesterday morning, at the office of Justice J. H.
Ruger, on the corner of Canal and West Randolph
streets. The deceased, whose name was James
        Fitzsimmons, on Wednesday afternoon appeared
before the Justice by answer to a warrant charging
him with an assault. The witnesses necessary for
a complete hearing of the case not being forthcom-
ing, a continuance was taken till 8 a. m. yesterday.
Deceased was present about fifteen minutes before
the time set for the hearing, and while in the act
of entering the Justice's room, fell dead instanta-
        neously.
An inquest was held upon the body, and a ver-
dict was returned to the following effect: "That
James Fitzsimmons came to his death from some
        disease to the jury unknown."
It appears that Fitzsimmons has been in a de-
clining state of health for some time. He has
been a hard drinker, and pursued the vice up to
the period of his death. He resided on Sampson
street, near Rucker, and leaves a mother and four
        children.

                The Late Robert Healy.
          At 10 A. M. of yesterday, a funeral procession
of carriages, fully one mile in length, left St.
Bridget's church, on Archer avenue, to accompany
the remains of Robert Healy, to their final rest-
        ing place in Calvary cemetery.
Mr. Healy was a gentleman of the noblest char-
acter, and had resided for the last 35 years in
Chicago, having accumulated by industry and
economy an independent fortune. His son, Gen.
Robert Healy, United States marshal for Ala-
bama, was at home when his father died, which
occurred about 5 A. M. on Good Friday. Among
the eight pall-bearers were six old settlers, each
one of more than 30 years' standing in Chicago,
and more than 70 years of age.

his residence, No. 19 Aberdden street, last

Edward Baggot, for Half a Century in
        Buisines in Chicago, Expires at
        His Residence
        -----------------------
Edward Baggot, for fifty years in the
plumbing business in Chicago, died yesterday
afternoon at his residence, 4049 Grand boule-
vard. Mr. Baggot was born in Ireland in
1834, and came to New York when 14 years
old. Two years later he moved to Chicago
and became a plumber's apprentice, and in
1861 started in business for himself. At the
outbreak of the civil war he enlisted in what
was known as the Mercantile Battery. At
the conclusion of his service he returned to
the city and again engaged in business.
The big fire in 1871 left him with 60 cents,
but he opened a store and prospered until the
present plant at 169 and 171 Adams street
was secured. A few years ago he organ-
ized the E. Baggot company, plumbing and
gas fitting supplies, of which he was general
manager until his death. He also organized
the Chicago General Fixture company, of
        which he was President.
Mr. Baggot was interested in charitable
work, his benevolence being directed to Cath-
olic institutions. H leaves a widow and four sons--
James, E., Joseph M., John D., and George
M., all of Chicago. Funeral services will be
held at 10 a. m. on Monday at the Holy
Angels' Church. Interment will be at Cal-
        vary.
