Welcome to the largest and only web site devoted entirely to the descendants of Thomas Marshall, III of Calvert County, Maryland. The focus of this database is Thomas's sons, Martin (8321 descendants recorded) and William (2445 descendants recorded). Even though we are not certain about Martin's ancestors, Michael Marshall of Caret, Virginia has come closer to closing that gap than anyone else I have been in contact with. I am including the results of his work in hopes that as time goes along others can refine the data and, perhaps eventually find the documentation we need to firmly establish the family links.

Martin migrated through Albemarle County, Virginia and finally settled in Stokes County, North Carolina. He farmed there and died September 9, 1824. His grave site is about six miles north of Winston Salem off Baux Mountain Rd. The cemetery is at the end of Dusty Trail. Many of his descendants can be found in Surry County, North Carolina around Mt. Airy and Pilot Mountain (The Mayberry and Mt. Pilot of the Andy Griffith show) and White Plains just south of Mt. Airy. I believe this database to be the largest collection of Surry County connected names on the web.

William migrated with Martin to Albemarle County, Virginia and died there in Jacob's Run in 1822. I do not know where his grave site is. Maybe a visitor to this site can help us on that.

The other family lines on this site are allied to the Marshalls through marriages. For example I have the Sparger line back to 1395 with a total of 4445 recorded descendants. Another interesting line is the Marions (5,429 recorded descendants) who came over with the French Huguenots through Winyah Bay (Georgetown), South Carolina.

On this site you will also find many other family lines such as Badgett, Joyce, Frey (Fry), Key, Nichols, Quese(i)nberry, Robertson, Vance, Venable, Vanhoy, Wolfe, and Wray. These are just some of the major surnames in my database.

I am also working on my wife's family of Talbots. There are not many Talbots recorded here yet, but I have a book of several thousand names I will be getting into in the future. That family descends from Richard Talbot and Elizabeth Ewen of Popular Knowle, West River, Maryland. There are actually some connections between the Talbots and the Marshalls in Maryland, but I haven't figured out which cousin my wife is to me yet.

Finally, I also have a pretty good list of Johnson's from my wife's mother's family. The William and Wisley families are connected to that line.
